Ramadan 1448 on the Umm al Qura calendar

…

The timetable is two times, not a long table

However big a Ramadan timetable looks, it really comes down to two numbers for each day:

Everything else on it is the usual prayer times. The tool above gives you both numbers from where you are, so it is your timetable for today.

A common mistake: imsak is not the start of the fast

Some timetables print a column called "Imsak" ten or fifteen minutes before Fajr, and many people take it as the moment the fast begins.

The fast begins at the Fajr adhan. Imsak is a precaution people have grown used to, and the majority of scholars hold that eating is allowed until the adhan. Whoever stops before it has been cautious, and whoever eats until the adhan has done nothing wrong.

That is why Saeed does not show an invented imsak column: it shows your Fajr as it is, and you add whatever margin you like.

Your city's timetable is not your timetable

A printed timetable is calculated from the city centre. You may be on the edge of the city, and across a large city the difference reaches three to five minutes at Maghrib.

Three minutes at iftar is not a detail: a whole household breaks its fast on it. That is why Saeed calculates your iftar from your own Maghrib, the same Maghrib shown in your prayer times, so two screens never give you two different numbers.

Three things that change in Ramadan

Iftar time moves every day too

Maghrib shifts by about a minute every two days, so if you memorised the iftar time at the start of the month, you will be about a quarter of an hour off by the end. More on Maghrib here.

Knowing the time is one thing, being reminded of it is another

The tool above gives you today's timetable. Ramadan mode in Saeed adds a live countdown to iftar from your Maghrib, and a suhoor countdown from your Fajr that starts right after Maghrib, so it carries on past midnight with you.

It also tells you which day of the month it is, and gives you six ready acts of worship in one tap that stay with you after Eid. Alongside them are the morning and evening adhkar and the qibla direction.

Questions about the Ramadan timetable

What is a Ramadan imsakiya?

A timetable that shows two times for each day of the month: Fajr, which ends suhoor and starts the fast, and Maghrib, which is iftar. Any other times on it are the usual five prayer times.

What is the difference between imsak and the Fajr adhan?

The fast begins at the Fajr adhan. The imsak printed on some timetables, ten or fifteen minutes before Fajr, is a precaution people have grown used to, and the majority of scholars hold that eating is allowed until the Fajr adhan. Whoever stops before it has been cautious, and whoever eats until the adhan has done nothing wrong.

When does suhoor end today?

It ends at the Fajr adhan where you are, and it depends on your city and on today's date. The tool above calculates it from your location with the Umm al Qura method and shows you today's exact time.

Why does my city's timetable differ from mine?

Because it is calculated from the city centre, and you may be on its edge. Across a large city the difference reaches three to five minutes at Maghrib, and that is when people break their fast. A calculation from your own location is more precise than a table for a whole city.

When is Ramadan 1448?

On the Umm al Qura calendar it begins on 8 February 2027. It may differ by a day from your country's announcement, because the calendar is an astronomical calculation, not a moon sighting. The countdown above shows how long is left.

Why is Isha later in Ramadan?

Because Umm al Qura sets Isha at ninety minutes after Maghrib for most of the year, and one hundred and twenty in Ramadan. So it comes thirty minutes later than you are used to. That is intended, to give Taraweeh more room, not a fault in the app.
